Symposium Overview

Last week the eHealth-Hub project team gathered at the University of Limerick for the project’s latest Review Meeting, welcoming participants from all seven partner institutions across Ireland and Northern Ireland, alongside representatives from the Higher Education Authority’s North South Research Programme. The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on progress, share learning, and plan for the next phase of the project. Presentations highlighted continued growth in research activity, training, and collaboration across the island.

Building Momentum

The eHealth-Hub continues to build momentum across research, innovation, and training. Collaboration between partners in Ireland and Northern Ireland has deepened, creating a truly shared approach to health data research and infrastructure. Key highlights from this period include:

Growing all-island engagement, with strengthened partnerships between academic, clinical, and policy communities.

National and international visibility, through presentations at major meetings and influential publications.

New technical frameworks for federated analysis of health data, supporting privacy-preserving, multi-site research.

Skills development and training, including new microcredential courses and student participation in international hackathons and summer schools.

Open-source innovation, with tools and software shared via the eHealth-Hub GitHub repository, now downloaded more than 10,000 times.

Policy impact, including contributions to national discussions on digital health and data legislation.

Strengthening Collaboration

The review also marked an opportunity for reflection and future planning. Partners discussed ways to build on the project’s strong foundations and expand the Hub’s contribution to Ireland’s evolving health data ecosystem. The meeting concluded with a social evening in Limerick, including dinner and an escape-room challenge, offering a welcome opportunity to connect informally and celebrate collective progress.

Looking Ahead

Supported by the HEA NSRP and the commitment of all partner institutions, the eHealth-Hub for Cancer will continue to strengthen collaboration, develop technical capacity, and build on the progress achieved to date—working together to advance health data research and improve outcomes for people across the island of Ireland.
