Cancer treatment has been revolutionized in the past decade with the arrival of precision oncology medicines. These medicines specifically target a cancer specific genetics, thereby providing targeted treatment with fewer side effects. As the number of new medicines have increased considerably, a database of these was needed to assistance with generating clinical reports. eHealth-Hub for Cancer partnered with the National Cancer Control Program and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Boston, the largest Comprehensive Cancer Center in New England to create world-class infrastructure for precision oncology in Ireland. PhD Student Mr Brendan Reardon, who is employed at DFCI, developed a database and framework for European and Irish precision oncology approvals which employs the most up to date standards, including OncoTree structured vocabulary. This will greatly assist with clinical reporting, helping patients and doctors navigate the complexity of precision oncology.
