Strengthening eHealth-Hub Impact Through EU Cancer Innovation Project

The University of Limerick (UL) is leading Ireland’s contribution to the European Joint Action on Personalised Cancer Medicine (JA PCM), a major initiative involving 29 countries and over 140 partners to advance personalised cancer care across Europe. Coordinated nationally by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP), the project focuses on improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment through data-driven, patient-centred approaches.

UL will play a key role by contributing to multiple work packages and leading efforts on genomics and imaging data standards. This work will help enable secure data sharing across Europe and support tools such as EU-wide molecular tumour boards, giving clinicians a more complete view of patient data and improving treatment decisions.

Professor Aedín Culhane said the initiative will allow cancer centres to “speak the same data language", opening new opportunities for collaboration, outcome comparison, and research—particularly for rare cancers.

UL’s involvement builds on its leadership in digital cancer innovation, including its work on Ireland’s National Cancer Data Node and the eHealth-Hub for Cancer, supporting more connected and data-enabled care across the island.
